It's the channeling and focus into my passion that entices me to create. Have you ever stared at a blank wall for an hour until it told you what image it held? When you close your eyes and see with your imagination you can open your eyes and trace it onto a canvas while recollecting memories from childhood of a stranger's features or vaguely remembered landscapes to fill in the details. To be so intimate with a process and to hold its outcome in front of you to show someone else is enlighteningly fulfilling. To have seen someone view my art while clutching their heart is all the feeling I need to know I am doing what I am meant to do.
Art Martinez’ career began 1996 with design, visual displays and prop-building through sign painting, scenic painting and murals to currently portraiture, public art, woodworking, and gallery exhibitions as well as having taught drawing workshops at his studio for several years. Art founded the artists’ collective Red Hands Media in 2007 with which he curates shows and exhibits art. He works closely with community groups and the arts community including the Long Beach Arts Council to provide an open venue for artistic expression and creative alliances.
Art is also an event painter having painted for Phantom Galleries, Evolver, Summer and Music Festival and many more. Several of his public works can be seen throughout Southern California. St. Gertrude's Catholic Church in Bell Gardens, CA is the largest collections of murals by Art Martinez. A total of seven paintings are on display in addition to wooden sculptures.
